Can you name 4 sources of protein?

Through the TOUCH initiative children are able to identify sources of protein through nutrition education provided by FLIPANY’s Registered Dietitians, nutrition educators and chefs.

Protein is an important part of building muscle in children and can be found in animal and non-animal sources. Protein is made up of amino acids and each amino acids serves a purpose in rebuilding and strengthening the body’s organs, muscles and immune system.

Animal sources of protein include: Lean sources of beef, chicken, pork, fish, seafood, eggs, and low-fat dairy products such as milk, yogurt and cheese.

Non-animal sources of protein include: Nuts, nut butters, beans, lentils, seeds and soy products.

When looking at the MyPlate diagram, protein is identified as being an important part of each meal time and taking up ¼ of the plate.  When preparing protein consider baking, grilling and broiling meats and decreasing or eliminating frying and heavy oil usage. Choose low fat and skim milk dairy products.

Build a better body and fuel up on protein!
